About

transpersonal art therapy

Have you ever felt like something was off but you couldn’t quite put a finger at it... You tried to find a correlation with what’s happening in your life but you couldn’t quite get to the bottom of it?

Art therapy helps you get right into these underlying emotions that can slip our conscious logical mind. By bridging the unconscious and conscious minds it brings forward what words can’t reach.

Art therapy recognises that emotions can often be messy and irrational and understands, that image is the soul’s main language and currency. Rather than solely relying on words, as is common in conventional therapy, art therapy has the advantage of working with the powerful tools of imagery and symbols.

Approach

the transpersonal

The transpersonal approach is rooted in the understanding that we all have the potential to heal by reconnecting with our authentic selves. The main focus of transpersonal art therapy is to recover, nourish, or strengthen the client’s connection to their authentic self. This translates into the client being seen as the expert of their inner world.

The transpersonal art therapist’s role is to create a safe and judgement-free space, where the client is empowered to step into their authenticity and consequently their full potential.

The art therapy sessions are conducted online, with the comfort of your own home and without the stress of rushing to or out of a session.

What happens in a session?

Session

Soul & Co art therapy sessions are conducted online, within the comfort of your own home, and without the stress of rushing to or out of a session. This enables you to be more relaxed and get more out of the session. The duration is 60 mins.

The sessions consist of 3 main components: guided meditation with gentle breathwork, the art expression and a talk part. After booking the initial session, the client is asked to fill in a detailed intake form so the therapist can learn about their background prior to the session.

At the beginning of the session we set an intent of the session and a suitable art therapy process is chosen. From there, client is guided through guided meditation and a gentle breathwork. This deep relaxed state brings on slightly altered state of consciousness which opens gates to the clients subconscious mind. From here, the client is led through the art process, using their imagination while tapping into their inner wisdom. Once the guidance is finished, the client expresses their findings on paper (or using their preferred medium). This usually takes about 15 minutes. Finally, the client is invited to unpack and integrate their findings before the session wraps up.

Do I need art skills?

No painter? No issue...

No skills are needed for art therapy. In fact, the true art therapy moment happens when we let go of what we have been taught and allow our inner world guide us, without focusing on the outcome, or what the artwork looks like. When it comes to the process, there are no outlines, and you are free to work with whichever medium you resonate with the most.

This flow takes a while to develop and first session can feel awkward. When I had my first art therapy session I drew a plain black line and could not get anything else out of me... but over the time, I got hang of the flow, and I had so much to draw... that there was not enough time for it in the session.

That is also why at least three sessions are recommended for you to truly experience the transpersonal art therapy benefits. Like with any therapy form, to create a long lasting change, ten sessions would be a minimum.
